On 12 August 2026, a total solar eclipse will be visible from the Westfjords of Iceland. Bolafjall is one of the most remarkable places to experience this rare natural event, offering panoramic views over the surrounding mountains, fjords and the open sea.
For safety and traffic management reasons, the road to Bolafjall will be closed to general traffic earlier in the day. Guests will therefore travel to the mountain by organised shuttle bus from Bolungarvík.
The meeting point is at the Community Centre in Bolungarvík, where guests will check in and receive a wristband or ticket before boarding the shuttle bus. The wristband is valid for the bus ride up to Bolafjall and the return journey back down after the eclipse.
Shuttle buses will operate regularly throughout the afternoon. Guests are encouraged to arrive early, as a large number of visitors is expected in Bolungarvík on this day.
Once at Bolafjall, guests will have time to enjoy the surroundings and prepare for the eclipse. After the event, organised shuttle transport will take guests back down to Bolungarvík.
This is a unique opportunity to witness one of nature’s most extraordinary events from one of Iceland’s most dramatic viewpoints.
